Calendars
There are five calendars that have been used by the Mayans in ancient times through the present to keep track of celestial and planetary events. These calendars, both alone and when combined in various configurations, create cosmic pointers to earthly and celestial events. The calendars are based on earth-centered, astronomical, and processional alignments, similar to those calendars used by the ancient Egyptians and the Hebrews. The Mayan calendars include the Long Count or great-cycle calendar, the solar Haab calendar, the Tzolkin sacred lunar calendar, the 52-day Calendar Round--a combination of the Haab and Tzolkin calendars--and the Venus Round calendar-- a combination of two Calendar Round periods. Each calendar was encoded into the ceremonial centers so that during key celestial events, the centers would be activated and transfer holographically recorded information to initiates. Go To:
